Dear Reader,
I decided to try something different with the blog last month and I’d like to continue this writing style and approach throughout the remaining months of 2016. Rather than expanding on each song individually, I’d rather just talk about some of my favorite picks of the month. Here are my top 3 for November 2016: STRFKR – Something Ain’t Right Being No One, Going Nowhere’s crowning jewel, in my opinion. This tremendously infectious and ‘80s pop style song will be stuck in your head all day long. I’m so lucky to have seen STRFKR perform this song from their new album live as a birthday present at Thalia Hall a couple of weeks ago. This album is absolutely worth checking out in its entirety. Jim James – Same Old Lie Jim is back with his second solo album, Eternally Even, released earlier this month. Not only is this song a triumph musically, but there is a fantastic amount of truth behind it. James’ message is that change doesn’t come from being silent and you can hear it ring all throughout the album. Smashing Pumpkins – Hummer Every year I get myself a birthday present and I was finally able to find Siamese Dream, reasonably priced, on vinyl. I’ve been bathing myself in ‘90s nostalgia with this recent purchase and it’s reminded me of just how special Siamese Dream really is. I don’t know if it’s because The Smashing Pumpkins are from my side of town or because it’s a ‘90s masterpiece, again in my opinion, but this album reminds me of my childhood and I’m glad I was able to revisit it. One more month to go in 2016!! If you have any suggestions for next month or want to discuss any of my November picks, let me know! [email protected] OR @jessfsamson
